TERMIN VOX OFFICIAL PAGE InterviewsInterview with METAL-NATION.COM(AUSTRALIA) Who would you include as your predecessors; which bands inspired you to make the music you do It’s a diffuclt qurstion. First all, we’re all impressed by the music of monsters like Pantera and Korn, though at the moment we’re much inspired by the new names of MADVANE, MNEMIC and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE to name just a few. Who would you class as your contempories; bands that you see as your equals in the current scene? I think there’s no straight answer as we’re relatively young band. Who would you like to tour with? MESHUGGAH, ROB ZOMBIE, MUDVANE, SLIPKNOT, dillinger escape plan. Which bands would you just as soon see disappear altogether? All the bands that are becoming more pop and commercial with every new album. It’s just more and more boring to listen to them Which sub-genre of metal would you class yourself as? Well, probably it’s hardcore or angry metla but in fact we think that young girls who call us pervert-rockers (laughing) are right. This is funny, but there is something to agree with. I’d be interested to know how you would class us. How did you band come together? Around five years ago, me and our guitarist Arsen set up a band called Titus. We studied in the music college and once had a long party where we all gone drunk and decided to work together. We found musicians and they all were just in-and-out rapidly as we didn’t really know what we wanted ourselves. Titus existed for two years but the conflict rose and we ended up with the band split. Arsen joined another metal band, I set up my own project. It has been a while before we met again. We played in different bands, played solo concerts, took part in various festivals, made records. One day just called Arsen, we met, had some beer and just spoke about various things. Then I offered him an idea of the new project called Termin Vox and we left aside all our difficulties and began the studio work. Tell me about the band members? u-jin popelov – vocal adjamyan arsen – guitar rustam "bass-lead" - bass guitar pavel "tick" – drums How did you come up with the band name? I think it all the same with the others, we had lots of ideas, half of them I now can’t even recall. We wanted to mix a sort of technical things, music and feelings. And of course we wanted something that sounds good and easy to remember. So I offered Termin Vox and all the guys loved this Tell me about where you are from? We are from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It’s a Central Asian country, once a part of Soviet Union where the communism has been strangely mixed with Asian traditions. So I think we’re one of the few truly metal Central Asian bands in fact (laughing). It’s a country where music underground is exactly ‘underground’, with no support or interest from local music industry whatsoever, with government which is suspicious to rock and metal music in particular and audiences sometime stuck in the music of 80’s. And it’s hard to be a musician here, you have very limited opportunities, though we somehow managed to become known. They were no developments till very recently, really. What is you local scene like - are you one amongst many, or a lone torch bearer for Metal? I wouldn’t say we don’t have metal bands at all, but there are very few. The music culture has just started to progress. Despite this, Termin Vox is quite popular and we’re invited to play, I would say, more often than others. There are some new metal albums released by local bands, so it’s all there but hard to find. What do you want to achieve with your band; a way to avoid mundane employment; noteriety amongst metal fans, or world domination? First of all we want our music and ideas to be heard by as amny people around the world as possible. This our aim really. I first tome has been on a rock concert aged 12. And it was just so cool, may be even too cool for the teenager I was then. Now, whne onstage I see the audience and look for that 12-years-old me. Maybe one day I’ll see him and he too will think of becoming a musician. Do you still have day jobs? Well I work as a sound producer at the local record studio. Do some work in video and web design. What have been the band's highlights so far? Well, have an album that has been fully recorded and mixed. It’s a dark Sci-Fi story told in 14 tracks. We’ve worked with Mick Glossop (UK producer of Jan Gillan) on two singles. Made three DVD, two of them are live concerts and one is the band documentary. We’ve been featured on a number of compilations and our tracks were played on Spain metal radio. Had lot of performances. But really, there’s still much more to do. Any lowlights? We had to cancel some performances this autumn due to some changes in the band. What are you current tour plans? We plan some big performances from November. At the moment we only play in Uzbekistan but we’re ready to work with agencies and promoters worldwide. And how about studio plans? We’re now working on the new material that is going to be tougher and more emotional than previous one. We plan to record a single with new musicians. We want to grow up to the new level of sound and arranging, this time without second guitarist and electronics. This is gonna be an interesting work and we’re now searching a label to release this. When do you expect we'll be seeing the next (or first) album? This spring we go to studio, so I think by August there will be new album released nad we’re going to support this with lots of concerts. Do you have any advice for new and upcoming bands? Follow your way whatever happens. Work more and be professional in what you do. Name 10 albums you can't live without, or you would recommend to someone above all others (this can be any album, whatever genre, and will be used to create a seperate article in the beginner's section - be as detailed as you can be) 1. Korn - follow the leader 2. Mudvane - L.D.50 3. Rammstein - Rosenrot 4. staind - break the cycle 5. Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power 6. Marilyn Manson-Hollywood 7. meshuggah -Destroy Erase Improve 8. Tool - 10000 Days 9. dillinger escape plan - miss machine 10. Norma Jean - O God The Aftermath 11. Termin Vox - Evolution
